Commercials They Wouldn’t Dare Make Today

Here’s a commercial for a toy from my childhood that they would not dare to make today.

I present to you Rub a Dub Dolly.

I think it speaks for itself.

Design Fail

I tried to read the text on this, but the light text on light background gave me such a headache, I gave up.

msannomalley’s iPod Playlist from Hell–The Happy Holidays Edition

Like your Aunt Mabel’s fruitcake, bad pop songs are the gift that keeps on giving.  Here are some musical lumps of coal for your Christmas stocking.   If you’re not a Scrooge already, these songs will make you become one.  Bah Humbug!

If you see a little red “X” next to the audio icon, you can click on the “You Tube” button in the lower right hand corner of the video player to watch this on You Tube in a new window or browser tab.   I was having trouble with this when I was writing the draft and I think it’s something to do with WordPress and the way it parses the URL.

The Only Christmas Song to Come with a Nose Cola Warning

Oh Holy Night

If you don’t have tears running from your eyes from laughing at this, then I pity you for not having a sense of humor.

The singer was a musician by the name of Steve Mauldin and apparently, this was just some messing around late at night and never intended for the public.  Even so, thank you, Mr. Mauldin for giving us some unintentional Christmas cheer during a time when people are fighting the “war on Christmas”, pushing and shoving each other over a toy, and we get to feeling stabby after our co-workers play “The Christmas Shoes” one too many times.

I Apologize for the Silence

I apologize for the month-long silence on these pages.  But two things happened:

First, my medical leave was up and I went back to work.   I was on medical leave from September to November.

Second, I participated in NaNoWriMo for the very first time and I spent a lot of my free time furiously writing a 50,000 word first draft of a novel.  I am very pleased to announce:

I Won!!

Yes, I wrote 50,315 words in 28 days!   I don’t get a book contract and wealth and fame beyond my wildest dreams, but I do get to brag and after the first of the year, I get a substantial discount on a writing program.   I also get the satisfaction that I started something and I saw it through until the end.

Participating in this has truly liberated me as a writer and it helped me smack down the inner critic and the inner editor and just let myself write.   In order to succeed in this endeavor, you have to give your self permission to do two things:  write crap and to not finish.   Then you just sit and you write and let whatever happen happen.

In the future, I plan on providing more written content along with all the You Tube links.

My participation in NaNoWriMo was mostly spur of the moment.  I do plan on getting content together before I participate in this next November to avoid the silence.

But, if you like what you read here, you can subscribe and be notified by e-mail when I make new posts.  This way, you don’t have to keep checking back every day if I’m silent.  And next time, I will announce if I have to go on hiatus.

Songs I Like Sunday-11/7/2010

This is my favorite Beatles’ song ever. Enjoy.
